Control sheet Revision 1 Counted 16 October 2026

Staying in control

Five protections cost nothing, and three of them arrive unasked. Priced in the unit used everywhere else here: a ceiling of £10 against a day funds 100 spins at 10p, while £100 typed against a week funds 700 of them rather than 1,000.

Reachable in a week 700 spins One spin 10p Of the £100 typed £70.00

1

Five, and what each one costs

Five protections are open to a reader in Great Britain at no charge. Three ride on a British licence, so a licensed cashier owes them unprompted. Two are fetched, from a charity’s line and onto a reader’s own hardware.

  • A ceiling typed by the reader over money going in, held against that reader’s account.
  • One registration, which shuts the licensed market in a single action.
  • Software that will not load a gambling site on the device it sits on.
  • A helpline on one number.
  • A complaints procedure ending with an adjudicator the operator did not pick.

Each is a quantity rather than counsel, which is why how a count is priced can be turned on them: in spins at 10p, and in days.

Spelling, because a name is the cheapest thing to get right. Gamstop with a small s, Gamstop Online in full; Gamban with a small b.

2

The ceiling, and the figure that binds

A licensee has to hand a customer the means of setting a financial limit, and the live standard fixes the moment: at sign-up, or when the first payment or deposit is made. In looser words, a Commission summary of the same reforms asks only that the prompt come early. The standard governs here.

Shape is prescribed along with timing. A free-text box takes the figure rather than a menu of presets, and account level is the floor at which a limit works. Three periods have to be available: a day, a week, a month.

Underneath lies arithmetic nobody does for the reader. Two periods running together are settled by whichever is stricter. Take the regulator’s own pair, £10 against a day beside £100 against a week. Seven daily allowances make £70.00, so £70.00 is the week’s true ceiling and £30.00 of the weekly figure cannot be reached.

Now in counts, this site’s whole trade. A tenner a day buys 100 spins at 10p; £70.00 over seven days buys 700. The reader who typed £100 was aiming at 1,000, so 300 of those spins never existed.

Two periods, one week
What was set, and what follows from it In money In spins at 10p
Typed against a day£10.00100 daily
Typed against a week£100.001,000 weekly
What seven days will allow£70.00700
Beyond reach, unannounced£30.00300

Capping spending therefore buys more cover than asked for, while a daily figure typed years back overrules a weekly one.

Hours are left alone by all of it. Licensed reels may run no faster than one cycle per 2.5 seconds, so 700 spins is 29 minutes 10 seconds of pressing.

300 spins of the weekly figure out of reach, with nothing said

3

One direction is instant, the other is not

The two directions travel at unequal speeds, and the gap holds most of the protection. A cut goes in immediately once the customer asks, technical failure aside. An increase waits a day at minimum, and the reader must then return to confirm it separately.

A day, in the unit counted here, is 34,560 cycles at the 2.5-second floor and £3,456.00 of stake at 10p. That is what a night between request and confirmation holds out of play.

Carrying a limit is the preselected answer too. The default on screen is a limit set; refusing it takes a deliberate act and then a confirmation before money moves. An account without one is prompted yearly at least; one used inside the rolling year, twice yearly.

Access is specified down to the clicks: a direct home-page link, visibility on deposit screens, fewest steps possible.

4

One register, four lengths

One national register covers online self-exclusion, and Gamstop Online is it. Its footer gives the entity as The National Online Self Exclusion Scheme Limited, Registered No. 10504973, whose address in Harrogate is 3 Greengate, Cardale Park, HG3 1GY. Registering blocks the person’s own way in to gambling accounts, on websites and inside apps alike.

Four lengths are offered: six months, twelve, five years, and a five-year term renewing itself. Only in such a term’s last six months can that renewal be switched off.

Two features beat any setting inside a cashier’s account page. Early release does not exist, a point the terms make in capitals. Nor is expiry automatic: a term’s end brings a choice between extending and deactivating deliberately, and doing neither can leave the registration live for another seven years.

Deactivation starts with a call to the contact centre, after which at least a day of cooling off runs on with the exclusion in force. Operators are then told for seven years that the person was once registered, without being obliged to bar them. 20 May 2026 dates the current terms.

5

Where the registration stops

Membership is a licence condition, so the scheme’s reach is the licence’s reach and not a list of websites. A company holding a British online gambling licence has to be in it; nothing lacking that licence does.

The scheme publishes that boundary itself, as an inability rather than as a gap. Operators taking part, it can hold a registrant away from; organisations which do not take part, it cannot. Read it as the limit of the cover in hand. A protection whose edges are known beats one assumed to stretch further. A shortfall, then, and not a doorway, and nothing published here will serve as one.

It is the honest label on what this site lists, too. An offer at the offshore end of this market comes under no Great Britain licence, so the membership condition never attaches to the cashier behind it, and nor does the apparatus in part 2. Exclusion exists out there an operator at a time: the Curaçao rulebook bars a player across one licensee’s domains, then encourages them to repeat the exercise elsewhere.

6

Software, a number, and who pays for which

Gamban is the blocking software. Its pages describe a multi-layered block over tens of thousands of gambling domains and apps, installable on every major platform under one licence.

On the company’s own site a British reader finds a seven-day trial, a free arrangement for Ohio residents, and no free British route at all. That route is GamCare’s, under the name TalkBanStop, which pairs a helpline, this software and the national register; GamCare states the software costs nothing for callers to the National Gambling Helpline or for people in its own treatment services.

Two details are missing from that paragraph on purpose. GamCare’s page about the route is a news article carrying 12 April 2021: it attaches no period to the free access, so neither does this sheet, and the device allowance quoted there is too old to print as current.

GamCare runs the helpline. Dial 0808 8020 133 and the call costs nothing; somebody picks up at any hour, any day, all year, by telephone, live chat or WhatsApp; from abroad it is +44 8088 020 133. Ringing about a relative or a friend is as expected as about yourself.

7

A complaint, its clocks, and the last word

Money in dispute goes first to the cashier holding it, on the regulator’s own instruction, and clocks start there. The cashier must acknowledge it as soon as reasonably possible, with three working days the outside limit and one day where the operator never closes. Eight weeks, or 56 days, caps the process including escalation inside the company. Six months after an incident is the earliest it may refuse to hear a complaint.

Those eight weeks can be halted: ignore a reasonable information request for seven days and the clock may stop, resuming where it stopped.

A final letter does three things: explains the decision, records that the company’s process is finished, and points the reader at an independent adjudicator. That cannot be whoever the operator fancies. The Commission approves dispute resolution providers, nothing unapproved may be used, and eight names stand on the list.

Coverage across the eight is uneven. Five are listed for remote in every sector. Two more are tabled across sectors, one of the pair having an entry that lists betting alone, and the eighth is absent from remote casino. So check the name on a final letter against the Commission’s list, which moves: one provider has come off it.

The regulator draws its own line in its own words: it is no ombudsman. Transactions are beyond it, a stalled withdrawal and a game fault alike; it recovers nobody’s money and cannot see into an account.

Both halves of that machinery, the timetable and the approval, come with a British licence and are owed nowhere without one. Curaçao publishes its own route on the same six-month and eight-week clocks, with adjudication free to the player at the operator’s expense, though the operator may set its parameters, a minimum claim value included. Absent offshore is the approval step, not the procedure.

A bank’s own gambling block belongs to the same family and gets the same handling here: there to be used, with nothing on this site to help anybody past it. Where a figure here is wrong, write to us sets out what a correction does to a page.
